UPDATE - 18 October 2024

Confirmation received from the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation & Science (DFHERIS) regarding financial support for students who are Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection.

Students who started university in 2023 and wish to continue in September 2024: 

  • Your fees will continue to be waived (free) as per last year (provided you are progressing) under the Temporary Tuition Fee Support Scheme
  • You will continue to receive a monthly maintenance payment as per last year - €1,150
  • If you need to repeat a year or semester, or change your programme you will be liable for EU fees and will no longer be eligible for the supports above

Students who started 1st year of university in September 2024: 

  • Your fees will be waived (free) under the Temporary Tuition Fee Support Scheme
  • You will receive a monthly maintenance payment - €900

Students who started a two-year PLC course in 2023 and wish to continue in 2024: 

  • Your fees will continue to be waived (free) as per last year 
  • You will continue to receive a monthly maintenance payment as per last year, €6,115 paid in monthly instalments

Students who wish to start a one-year PLC course in 2024: 

  • Your fees will be waived (free) as per last year 
  • You will receive a monthly maintenance payment as per last year but this has changed slightly: 
    • Students residing 30km or more from their college will be eligible for the "non-adjacent" rate of €6,115 paid in monthly instalments
    • Students residing less than 30km from their college will be eligible for the "adjacent" rate of €2,575 paid in monthly instalments

  • There are 16 Education and Training Boards (ETBs) across the country that offer English language skills courses for adults. 
  • If you need to learn or improve your English, the ETB will assess your English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking and arrange appropriate language and other learning supports to help you develop your English.
