Community Sponsorship

Community Sponsorship Ireland offers a unique approach to refugee resettlement, empowering local communities to take an active role in welcoming and supporting individuals and families as they begin new lives in Ireland. Unlike traditional state-led models, this programme is built on community-led efforts making it more effective in fostering integration and belonging for families supported.

Refugees supported through Community Sponsorship Ireland would already have been recognised as refugees by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and invited to Ireland under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme.

Our Role As An Organisation

The Irish Refugee Council is part of the National Support Organisation (NSO), working alongside Nasc, Doras, and the Red Cross. We provide guidance, training, and resources to community groups interested in sponsoring refugee families.

This initiative builds on years of experience as Regional Support Organisations, during which we helped communities across Ireland successfully welcome and integrate resettled refugees.

We are always looking for individuals and communities ready to make a difference by bringing families to safety and helping them rebuild their lives in Ireland.
