This report comes on foot of significant legislative change to the Irish asylum system. The International Protection Act came into force December 31st 2015 which repeals and replaces the Refugee Act 1996. We draw the UN Committee against Torture’s attention to some areas of concern within the Irish asylum system under this new legislation with regards to effective procedures for people fleeing persecution making recommendations on facilities for imigration-related documents, detention of people seeking asylum, consent for medical examinations, reception conditions for and identification of vulnerable persons needs, inadmissaiblity procedures, unaccompanied minors, age assessment procedures and improved training for personnell working with traumatised and vulnerable people seeking international protection.
